GitHub’s “Squash and Merge” doesn’t Squash and doesn’t Merge! Trade-offs with Merging (maori.geek.nz) Their rebase and merge doesn't rebase normally either. Instead it takes all of the commits and rewrites them so that there is a coauthor of whoever pressed the button to rebase and merge.
